Spending a Night in the ER...

After Berts funeral Nick and I went over to Bob & Janies to have some dinner with the family. When we got there Alexei was screaming once again [this had been going on for a day and a half now. When i said Lex was either sleeping or screaming i wasnt kidding!] So Nick and I decided there has to be something wrong with her. Not just a fussy baby, not teething, something worse.
So off we went to the Tanner Clinic Insta Care.
When we got there Dr. Stuart saw Alexei. The screaming definitely freaked him out. I mean honestly what kind of doc looks in a babies ears and cant tell that they're infected!! ugh. So then he tells us that theres something seriously wrong with Alexei cause her Screaming uncontrollably is not normal.... so he sends us straight to Primary Children's... I started crying my eyes out as we left Tanner Clinic.
We rushed over to Bob & Janie's and I called my dad as we were leaving the Insta Care. My dad, Bob, Richard, Matt and Nick gave Alexei a blessing. Instantly a feeling of comfort and relief. The drive to Salt Lake seemed like it would never end. Alexei slept the whole way cause she was so tired from screaming so much. Dr. Stuart had called Primary Childrens so they were waiting for us. We got right in and noticed Alexei's left ear was draining.... the nurse gave her some more Tylanol and within 20 minutes Alexei was feeling better.
Alexei just after the Tylanol kicked in. Not happy but also not screaming. Since she stopped screaming Nick read her some books... including my favorite "Arthur's Perfect Christmas" and Lex started smiling and cooing at Nick. After a little while our doc came in and we told him the whole story and he looked at Alexei's ears. He said her right ear had an infection and her left ear was infected and because of all the pressure behind the ear drum it had ruptured... as weird as this sounds it was a pretty big relief. I was so glad that it was only an ear infection. So the doc left to go get his supervisor [they have student doctors there] so she could confirm that was wrong. when they came back in she checked her out and explained the whole thing to us. I never knew really how an ear infection worked till now. and it sounds pretty painful... poor Lex. The put her on an oral antibiotic and ear drop antibiotic for her left ear and tylanol as needed. Then they left to go write the prescriptions.
While they were gone Alexei couldnt take it anymore. she was so sleepy that she fell asleep in Nicks arms. I'm just glad she was feeling better. We didn't get home till 3a.m.
She's doing a lot better now and her Left ear isn't draining so much.

on wednesday Alexei was feeling a lot better so i took her to the park and she tried out the swings for the first time! she loved them.

I'm so grateful for a husband that holds the priesthood and to have so much family around me that can give Alexei blessings. I have the best Dad in the world that threw on his church clothes and ran over to Nicks parents as fast as he could so we could get on our way.
I am truly blessed to have a healthy baby where Ear infections and a cold are the only sicknesses she's had so far.
I love my family and im so glad my sweet baby girl is feeling better. :)

Bert Paul Van Komen

Berts funeral was Monday September 19th, 2011.
It was an emotional day but we knew Bert is a lot happier where he is now.
Just after the services. On our way to the luncheon.

The Van Komens! That belong to Bob & Janie! haha

It was a good day. Alexei was pretty fussy all day so by the end of the night Nick & I were exhausted!

The "Championship" game.

A few days ago Nick got asked by the Jay's, to play in the Bountiful Adult League Championship. Of course he couldnt turn it down... [Unless Viewmont or the Hawks asked him to fill in] :)
Tonight was the game!
It was a very good game!

Stretching before the game.
My sweet baby slept through half the game. Hockey baby already :) i had a lot say "How is she still sleeping with all this noise!" and if you know me at hockey games... im not quiet!
End result!
The Jays won!!!
Skating to the locker room to celebrate!
My sweet Nick played sooo good! probably one of the best games i've seen him play!
The best part of tonight is that he wore his beavers jersey out there!
If feels good to win the Championship finally.

On another subject i CAN NOT wait for October. Every weekend has something exciting that month! including my birthday!

Oma & Opa Van Komen

On September 12, 2011 our Uncle Bert joined his Wife, Mom & Dad and many others in heaven. We miss him so much already but we know he is so much happier where he is now.
Because Bob's brother died they came home from Holland for a week for the funeral. Alexei has never met her Oma and Opa until tonight! She loved them so much!
She loved Oma so much that she went right to sleep in her arms.
We miss you and love you Uncle Bert. Bob and Janie, it was soo good seeing you! it feels like its been a lot longer than 9 months!!

NHL 2011-2012

This day was an AWESOME day for Nick and I.
Before work Nick and I went to Game Stop and picked this baby up!

We had to wait to play it until Nick got home from work....
so at 10:00 we put Alexei to bed and played for the first time!

We had so much fun! Nick had work at 8 the next morning so we only got to play 2 games and a couple shoot outs.

You better believe i won the first game.
[Nick still likes to think he "took it easy on me" but we all know the truth :)]
